Chaveli Sifre was born in Germany to Puerto Rican parents. She holds a BFA from the Escuela de Artes Plasticas in San Juan, and a masters degree in Museology from the HTW in Berlin. She has participated in numerous exhibitions including: Welt ohne Außen at Gropius Bau,curated by Tino Sehgal; Perspektive Wechseln at the Hamburger Bahnhof, and Atención Personal (Personal Attention) at La Estación Espacial in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is also the co-founder of “Scent Club Berlin”, a community of smell enthusiasts in Berlin, focused on scents as a medium, and “Escuela del Olor” in San Juan, another collective focused on distilling and documenting the first olfactory archive of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Recently, she co-curated “Peripheral Intuitions” a two week series of events that aimed to subvert the idea of “night life” transforming a nightclub into a space designated for all sorts of encounters, including: workshops, exhibitions, dinners, and parties organized by people who inhabit the periphery, whether its geographical or related to gender or age. She lives and works between Berlin and Puerto Rico.
Chaveli Sifre nace en Alemania de padres puertorriqueños. Tiene un bachillerato de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de San Juan y una maestría en Museología de la HTW en Berlín. Ha participado en una variedad de exposiciones que incluyen “Welt ohne Außen” en Gropius Bau, comisariada por Tino Sehgal; “Perspektive Wechseln” en el Hamburger Bahnhof y “Atención Personal” en La Estación Espacial en Puerto Rico. Asimismo es co-fundadora de “Scent Club Berlin”, una comunidad que se enfoca en el olor como medio, y la “Escuela del Olor” en San Juan, otro colectivo enfocado en destilar y documentar el primer Archivo Olfativo de Puerto Rico y el Caribe. Recientemente co-curó “Peripheral Intuitions” una serie de eventos que pretendían revertir la idea del “night life” transformando un club nocturno en un espacio designado para encuentros de todo tipo, incluyendo talleres, exhibiciones, cenas y fiestas gestadas por individuos que provienen de las periferias tanto geográficas, como de género y/o edad. Vive y trabaja entre Berlin y Puerto Rico.
