Rebecca Adorno, Usted Abusó
Rebecca Adorno (Puerto Rico, 1985) is a contemporary interdisciplinary artist who lives and works between New York and Puerto Rico. Adorno’s work comes from a research-based approach rooted in her background in Engineering and Fine Arts. By re-contextualizing scientific data, technology, and concepts involving physics of sound, Adorno creates physical representations of intangible phenomena that hint at type of social science fiction, while drawing parallels between aesthetics of beauty and lethality: signs and poetic contents that arise when catastrophic events, such as climate change, show flashes of sublime beauty.
Adorno received a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Puerto Rico and an MFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York. She has also studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez, was part of La Práctica in Beta Local, San Juan, P.R. and following her interest in alternative materials, took bio-engineering, Mycology and Bioplastics workshops at GenSpace, Brooklyn, New York.
Rebecca Adorno (Puerto Rico, 1985) es una artista interdisciplinaria contemporánea que vive y trabaja entre Nueva York y Puerto Rico. El trabajo de Adorno proviene de un enfoque basado en la investigación con raíces en su formación en Ingeniería y Bellas Artes. Por medio de la re-contextualización de data científica, tecnología y conceptos relacionados a la física del sonido, Adorno crea representaciones físicas de fenómenos intangibles que insinúan un tipo de ciencia ficción social, mientras que establece paralelismos entre estéticas de la belleza y letalidad: signos y contenidos poéticos que surgen cuando eventos catastróficos muestran destellos de belleza sublime.
Adorno recibió una licenciatura en “Bellas Artes” de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y una maestría en “Arte y tecnología” de la Escuela de Artes Visuales (SVA) en Nueva York. También estudió Ingeniería Eléctrica en la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Mayagüez, formó parte de La Práctica en Beta Local, San Juan, PR y, siguiendo su interés en materiales alternativos, realizó talleres de bioingeniería, micología y bioplásticos en GenSpace, Brooklyn, Nueva York.
